By downloading and/or using any images from Linnean Online, you are agreeing to the following Terms of Use.

• Items in the public domain (out of copyright):
  • These items can be used free from restrictions under UK copyright law.
  • Please use these items in accordance with the Europeana Foundation guidelines.
• Items in copyright:
  • Where copyright belongs to the Linnean Society, items may be reproduced for non-commercial purposes using a CC BY-NC licence, as indicated in the Licence field of the item metadata.
  • For commercial use, please contact [email protected].
  • Where copyright belongs to persons other than the Linnean Society, use is restricted to non-commercial research or private study. For any other use, contact [email protected], as indicated in the Licence field of the item metadata.
  • The Linnean Society will not seek copyright on your behalf.
• When using any images of material held by the Linnean Society, we ask you credit the Society as the source of the material, preferably with “Source: the Linnean Society of London, (item ref#)” when possible. Acknowledging the Linnean Society helps others know about our collections.
• If you are unsure of the copyright status of the material you would like to use, please email [email protected]. The Society cannot advise on whether use would result in copyright infringement.

 

Takedown Policy

We have made reasonable efforts to find the rights holders for our digitised material. However, it is not always possible to trace rights holders for historical collections. In the interest of making our collections as open and accessible as possible, we have taken the decision to publish some material of unknown copyright on Linnean Online.

If you believe you are the rights holder of material published on Linnean Online and you have not given permission for the material to be published, please contact [email protected]. You will need to provide:

• Your contact details
• A description of the material with a URL (link) to the material on Linnean Online
• A statement and accompanying proof that you are the rights holder or authorised representative of the rights holder

Once we receive a legitimate takedown request with the above information, the material will be removed from Linnean Online while we review the case. If the material is determined to be in copyright, it will remain unavailable through Linnean Online until copyright of that material expires or until the copyright holder permits the Linnean Society to publish the material on Linnean Online.
