Welcome to Linnean Online – a repository of digitised specimens, manuscripts, correspondence, and artwork held at the Linnean Society. Linnean Online includes all of the Society’s holdings of specimens (plants, insects, shells, and fish), manuscripts, and correspondence of Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778). The repository also includes other scientifically and historically important collections including the herbarium and correspondence of the Linnean Society’s Founder, Sir James Edward Smith (1759-1828), the notebooks of Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913), the watercolour collection of Francis Buchanan-Hamilton (1762-1829), and the manuscript collection of Alexander Anderson (1748-1811).
