Description:
Anders Jahan Retzius writes to Linnaeus and tells him that he is enclosing a programme from Christian Friis Rottböll [Retzius refers presumably to, Descriptiones plantarum rariorum iconibus illustrandas : cum earum, quae primo proximeque prodituro fasciculo continebuntur, elencho, programmate] as well as his own thesis [Retzius refers to his, Fasciculus Observationum botanicarum; in Fasciculus Observationum botanicarum primus Retzius also published some observations previously discussed in 1774]. A dear student of his [Magnus Gustaf Sahlstedt] wanted Retzius to preside at his dissertation. Due to lack of time he has sent some of his notes and hopes that Linnaeus finds them of interest. He writes that Tussilago spuria is flowering in the Academic Garden [of the University of Lund] and adds some remarks about that, but that it mostly corresponds to the description in the thesis [Fasciculus Observationum botanicarum primus]. In Copenhagen, at “EtatsRådet Holm”, he has seen “Fungi Regni Daniae”, a beautiful work, but he doubts that it will ever be finished and that it is very expensive, the cost is already about 12 000 Riks Dr. He writes that Otto Frederik Müller has shown him a number of new marine worms and aquatic insects mostly from Norway as well as stamen and pistils of Jungermanniae. Müller will continue with Georg Christian von Oeder’s , [Flora danica]. Icones plantarum sponte nascentium in regnis Daniae et Norvegiae He tells that Rotböll suffers from hypochondria and can hardly work although he is better now. Retzius writes that he has seen several drawings of Panica to “Liber secundus Iconum” [Retzius refers to an expected forthcoming second volume of Descriptionum et iconum rariores et pro maxima parte novas plantas illustrantium liber primus].

Wälborne Herr Archiaterns och Riddarens ödmiukaste tjenare And[ers] Jah[an] Retzius Lund d[ie] 8 Maji 1774.
