Description:
Abraham Bäck thanks Linnaeus for his latest letter [Linnaeus to Bäck, 27 January 1744], which Bäck had received a few days after he sent his former letter [this letter has not come down to us]. Bernhard de Jussieu sends his regards to Linnaeus. He will answer the letter [the next preserved letter from Jussieu to Linnaeus is dated 7 April 1745], and has given Bäck a package of seeds that Bäck encloses. A similar set will be given to Bäck every week, and Bäck will send them to Linnaeus through Claes Ekeblad. Bäck has received from the printer Michel-Antoine David a copy of a new edition of Genera plantarum [Bäck refers to the Genera plantarum, 3nd edition] with a letter that Bäck encloses. He will send the volume as soon as possible. He wants to know why Linnaeus has not provided the Justicia Houstonia with a pistil. The new edition has copied the Dutch edition [Bäck refers to Genera plantarum [...] Editio secunda] very well, so that they both can be called “editio secunda”. The work is very much in demand by all the botanists in Paris. Bäck is surprised that Linnaeus has not got any letter from him for a year. Bäck is quite well and likes Paris. P.S. Bäck tells that he has no news other than about the conflict between France and England. It is too early to say anything about the outcome.
