Description:
Abraham Bäck had sent Linnaeus a letter [this letter has not come down to us] through Anders Johan von Höpken, in which he thanked Linnaeus for his nice letter [this letter has not come down to us]. He supposes that it has reached Linnaeus. Enclosed in this letter, he sends a letter from the vice chancellor of Leyden University [this letter has not come down to us]. The seeds that Linnaeus had asked for will be delivered to Bäck next Friday, and he will send them to the merchant brothers Grill in Amsterdam [Anthoni Grill and Johan Abraham Grill] with the request that they send them at once to their brother in Stockholm [Claes Grill], where Linnaeus can ask for them. Bäck will also receive a box with living flowers, and he intends to send that the same way and to get the Grills to ask somebody on board the vessel to water the plants. Adriaan van Royen has permitted Bäck to walk freely in the university garden, and the greenhouses, to look at whatever he wants. Bäck is sure that Royen would be happy to know that Linnaeus is pleased by this favour shown to Bäck. Gerhard van Swieten’s commentary on Herman Boerhaave, Commentaria in Hermanni Boerhaave aphorismos de cognoscendis et curandis morbis], part 1, has been published and costs 6 ½ florins. A second part is expected. Bernhard Siegfried Albinus’s edition of Eustachius’s [Bartolomeo Eustachi], ”Tabulae anatomicae” is ready and will be published as soon as the preface has been finished [Bäck refers to the Explicatio tabularum anatomicarum Bartholomaei Eustachii]. Bäck is quite well in Leyden and has a pleasant time, especially with those working in anatomy and chemistry. Bäck sends his humble regards to all his patrons in Sweden, especially Anders Celsius and Olof Celsius and Magnus Olai Beronius
